Hollaback! Melbourne Regular Contributors

Position Summary

Are you passionate about feminism, street harassment or gender equality? Do you like to vent your rage in an eloquent manner over the internet? Do you like to present well-researched pieces? Do you like writing cultural commentaries? Do you like commenting on current events? Do you feel you have a voice? Do you have a unique perspective on LGBTQI issues or want to write about your experiences? Well then we have the job for you!

Hollaback! Melbourne is seeking regular contributors to write blog and opinion pieces for the Hollaback! Melbourne site.

Role Responsibilities include:

  • Committing to writing a weekly, fortnightly or monthly column for Hollaback! Melbourne. It is our vision that you would put your name to the writing, so our readers get to know individual voices, and that there would be a ‘theme’ to your column.
  • Liasing with the Website Content Manager & Editor to co-ordinate your posting, and uploading your article either to WordPress or submitting via email.
  • Include pictures, videos and other engaging content in your work and providing the sources for these.
  • For example: writing an engaging and thought provoking fortnightly summary on what’s going on in the Australian feminist blogosphere – The State of the Streets.
  • Commenting on current issues or events regularly, with a particular theme or distinct ‘voice’.
  • ‘Dear harasser’ letters – constructing a letter to an anonymous harasser.
  • Writing our Takedown Tuesday or The F Word series (see the Hollaback! Melbourne website for previous examples).

You will be required to contribute thoughtful, provocative and well-researched blog content on topics developed in conjunction with the Hollaback! Melbourne team. Basically, if you want to write about something awesomely feminist on the regular – we want you!

This role will be based around a flexible work arrangement. The exact terms of the role will be defined according to the needs of the contributor and the Hollaback! Melbourne organisation.

General Selection Criteria

  • Interest in feminism and women’s issues
  • Great organisational skills
  • Great written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently within a small team
  • Flexibility and ability to work to deadlines
